Two way views in Shimla, India

Shimla is a quaint hill station in north India. Once upon a time summer capital of British in India, it is a tourism hot spot. The majestic views of the Himalayas from the mall is soothing to the eye. Sometimes during my travels, I love to saunter around aimlessly relishing street food, watching the sun move around the buildings and weaving stories around the expressions on the unknown faces. It was one such sunny afternoon in Shimla Mall and I had a grand day watching, smiling, weaving one of my many untold unwritten stories while clicking away from all angles. The same view from two ways, one precise and the other expansive is a lesson in life to deal with every situation.

I started off with a bowl of fruit chat which was a combination of bananas, tomatoes, cucumber and apple amply peppered with chilly, lime juice and some exotic Indian spice. The street side vendor was proud of his mix and showed off his skills while I waited for my bite. He was absolutely right, the spicy sweet taste was quite an experience. A little further, the statue of India’s first woman prime minister pointed to the wonderful view of the snow clad mountains while old and young in colorful attire were enjoying the sunshine in front of the town hall. I went in and out of shops on the mall admiring the shawls, stoles and woolens and stood mesmerized by the church on the upper level before settling down with snacks and coffee in the decades old Indian Coffee House.

Travel Tips: Drive from Delhi for about 8-9 hours, a 3 hour drive from Chandigarh. Overnight train to Kalka from Delhi and a 2 hour drive up to Shimla. There are many hotels to suit every  budget in Shimla and nearby Chail.
